Position Overview LGES Vertech is seeking a motivated and entrepreneurial‑spirited Systems Modeling Engineer to join our Data Science team and contribute to innovative projects in the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) domain. This role offers the opportunity to work cross‑functionally, developing inverter models, electrical subsystem models, and physics‑based battery models, and to help build the next generation of flagship digital products. This is a hybrid position in our Westborough, MA office requiring 4 days/week in the office.
Primary Responsibilities
Model Li‑ion battery-based energy storage subsystems, including state machines, closed‑loop controls, and related building blocks.
Collaborate with systems and controls engineering teams to develop physics‑based models, simulate system performance, and validate lab and field data.
Support DevOps in packaging and deploying system models for customer‑facing applications.
Analyze large volumes of time‑series data to identify patterns, validate assumptions, and derive actionable insights.
Participate in Agile software development practices, contributing to design reviews, sprint planning, and iterative releases.
Produce high‑quality documentation and communicate effectively across technical and non‑technical teams.
Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum 3 years of industry experience developing physics‑based system models.
Demonstrated 2+ years of experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape libraries.
Hands‑on experience with control systems modeling (PID loops, state machines, etc.).
Proficiency in Python for scientific computing and software development.
Experience in Linux‑based environments.
Familiarity with Jira, Git, or equivalent collaboration tools.
Strong background in power systems and inverter modeling is preferred.
Experience with battery‑based system modeling is preferred.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate within diverse, global teams.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. required.
Education and Experience
M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems or equivalent required; Ph.D. preferred.
Minimum 3 years of industry experience developing physics‑based system models.
