Position : Advanced Practice Professional – Clinical Lead, APP (Advanced Practice Provider) in the Heart & Vascular Institute’s Vascular Surgery service line.
Department : Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI)
Reports To : Direct Supervisor – Administrative Director of HVI and Senior APP/Director, Office of Advanced Practice Professionals
FLSA Status : Exempt
Position Summary : The Advanced Practice Professional will provide comprehensive patient care in accordance with state law and hospital credentials. Responsibilities include clinical service delivery, education, credentialing, and quality improvement within the Vascular Surgery service line.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Manage inpatient APP personnel and maintain a credentialed, competent workforce to meet patient care needs.
Serve as a staff role model by promoting team collaboration, providing coaching, and participating in performance appraisals.
Develop and implement educational programs for staff, including orientation, in‑service training, procedural training, and equipment training.
Ensure adequate APP coverage in inpatient settings, communicating effectively with physicians, nurses, and other staff.
Collaborate with medical staff to ensure APP care aligns with procedural policies and state standards.
Facilitate professional development and orientation of new employees and students.
Lead quality initiatives, perform performance improvement activities, and report on outcomes.
Participate in research and quality projects as required.
Maintain documentation and comply with hospital policies and state regulations.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner
Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a master’s degree in nursing.
National APRN certification from a recognized center.
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse and advanced practice RN in West Virginia.
BLS certification required; additional ACLS training at the discretion of the department.
At least three years’ experience in vascular surgery.
Preferred Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner
ACNP or FNP certification.
Minimum Qualifications – Physician Assistant
Bachelor’s or master’s degree as a Physician Assistant.
Graduate of an ARC‑PA approved PA program.
Certified by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.
Licensed or eligible for licensure by WV Board of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine.
BLS certification; additional ACLS training at the department discretion.
At least three years’ experience in vascular surgery.
Master’s degree as Physician Assistant preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, move, stoop, and reach while handling patients and equipment up to 40+ pounds.
Working Environment
Protracted or irregular hours; work with biohazards, infectious diseases, and near deceased patients.
Travel to regional sites as needed.
Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with computer systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
