CT Technologist – Imaging (Full-time) – Oak Lawn, IL
Base pay range: $34.90/hr – $52.35/hr
Major Responsibilities
Performs CT scans and reformations according to established clinical protocols, guidelines, and department operating procedures
Positions patients correctly, using proper immobilization techniques
Performs optimal scans using correct technical factors and protocols based on the patient diagnosis, history, and other relevant clinical information
Uses correct technical factors in accordance with the American College of Radiology (ACR) to keep radiation dose low while obtaining a diagnostic scan
Performs CT angiography, 3D reconstruction, and post-processing of computer data to enhance exams for radiologist interpretation, using reconstruction software appropriate to the pathology or region of interest
Follows correct CT Department Technologist workflow: start exam in radnet, select correct scan room and technologist, scan patient, send images to PACS, complete paperwork, charge for contrast media, verify images sent to PACS, archive images on scanner and optical disc
Operates support equipment for CT such as independent workstation, pressure injector, PACS, and RADNET
Initiates IV for administration of contrast media in accordance with department policy and standard precautions, with IV certification within 3 months of hire
Prepares patient for exams by explaining procedures and answering questions
Transports patients to and from departments, assists in transfer on and off the CT table, and continually monitors patient condition during CT procedure
Works with radiologist to tailor protocols to meet patient exam requirements
Obtains and documents patient history, including lab values, allergy screening, surgical history, dialysis history, and other relevant data, ensuring appropriateness of exam and contrast media
Recognizes contraindications for IV and oral contrast per patient history, diagnosis, or protocols
Documents all patient information on appropriate forms for department records related to patient statistics, billing, and supplies
Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and notifies ordering personnel when supplies need to be ordered
Assists in scheduling exams
Ensures compliance with accrediting organization, IEMA, and department safety standards, performing basic QA scans, documenting QA, and participating in safety initiatives
Coordinates scheduling of inpatients, outpatients, and ER patients to optimize CT equipment and personnel utilization
Keeps up-to-date with current CT procedures and developments, shares information with staff, new hires, and students, and provides training on new techniques and protocols
Keeps state licensure (IEMA), certifications (ARRT), and CPR card current
Maintains good relations with internal and external customers, follows advocate standards of behavior, uses AIM, resolves complaints, and refers difficult issues to higher authority
Education and Experience Required
3 years general radiology ARRT registry, IEMA license, CPR within 3 months of hire
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Basic knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and CT procedures; good oral and written communication; computer competent
ARRT registry, IEMA license, CPR certification (within 3 months of hire); IV certification (within 3 months of hire); must pass advanced CT certification within 1 year of hire
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to work overtime, flexible scheduling, weekend, holidays, on-call, and minimal notice; proficient in IV certification and computer competence; excellent communication; organizational skills; ability to handle ill patients; independent decision-making; attend education and safety inservices; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and radiation; follows radiation safety guidelines
Light lifting up to 20‑50 pounds occasionally; medium up to 50 pounds occasionally; heavy up to 100 pounds occasionally; patient handling equipment may be required for >35 pounds
