Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow, improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Oversees pharmacy staff performance and engagement, and ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff through training, coaching, and performance management initiatives.

Job Responsibilities Patient Experience

Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues promptly and answers questions to ensure a positive experience.

Models customer service best practices with all team members, demonstrating care through greeting, eye contact, courtesy, curiosity, and empathy.

Anticipates patient needs and proactively offers services, promoting healthcare services such as medication management, drug therapy reviews, and wellness services (immunizations, testing).

Participates in community events and activities as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager.

Operations

Counsels patients on medication use, side effects, interactions, and contraindications, and refers to medical providers as needed.

Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.

Accurately dispenses prescribed medications and ensures compliance with regulations, policies, and standards.

Establishes efficient workflow procedures, coordinates staff scheduling, assigns roles, and solicits team suggestions.

Follows Good Faith Dispensing policy and state/federal controlled substance laws.

Collaborates with Store Manager to define and develop new strategic business opportunities.

Maintains knowledge of pharmacy systems, including workflow, prescription fulfillment, billing, and inventory management.

Processes insurance claims accurately and resolves payment rejections, third‑party audits, and provider issues.

Conducts clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management, and other healthcare services.

Manages pharmacy department maintenance, housekeeping, repairs, new equipment, and layout improvements.

Prepares and submits required records and reports as mandated by state and federal laws.

People & Performance Management

Collaborates with Store Manager on pharmacy staff hiring, discipline, termination, and employment law compliance.

Establishes expectations and goals, promotes teamwork, and fosters a shared vision.

Monitors and recognizes staff improvements, implements rewards programs, and oversees training and formal performance reviews.

Identifies high‑potential team members and collaborates on career progression.

Addresses employee relations concerns and maintains team morale.

Training & Personal Development

Maintains required licensing, credentialing, and certification in line with federal and state regulations.

Stays current on pharmacy and healthcare knowledge through journals, publications, and company communications.

Completes education credits and training modules required by the company.

Seeks professional development, solicits feedback, and leverages mentors and coaches.

Communications

Supports the Store Manager by communicating corporate health and wellness information to pharmacy staff.

Business Performance Management

Analyzes pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory performance data.

Manages asset protection activities and oversees inventory management.

Identifies performance trends and opportunities for improvement.

Business Planning

Develops and maintains relationships with local medical community providers.

Promotes pharmacy business and expands health and wellness awareness in the community.

Supports Store Manager in enhancing local engagement.

Basic Qualifications

BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D Degree from an accredited institution.

Current pharmacist licensure in the district states.

Certified Immunizer or willingness to become one within 90 days of hire.

At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including dispensing, recordKeeping, compliance, operations, technology, and insurance billing.

Strong knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws.

Average rating of at least 3.0 on the last leadership performance review, with no disciplinary actions in the last 12 months (internal candidates only).

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy staff.

At least 6 months pharmacy experience with Walgreens.

Average rating of 3.7 or above on the last leadership performance review (internal candidates only).
