Job Overview Fairview is looking for a Laboratory Care Technician for the Acute Care Laboratory at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This is a part‑time position, 64 hours per 2‑week pay period, with alternate‑weekend rotation. The role primarily covers evening shifts with occasional night shifts.
Shift Schedule
Evening shifts: 1:15 pm‑9:45 pm or 2:30 pm‑11:00 pm
Night shifts: 10:00 pm‑6:30 am or 11:00 pm‑7:30 am
Responsibilities
Collect blood specimens in inpatient, outpatient and pre‑surgical settings.
Accurately enter orders and collection information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Monitor computer logs for incomplete work and schedule tests/procedures.
Provide results in LIS/HIS and over the phone when required.
Deliver point‑of‑care testing and maintain specimen handling standards.
Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to established guidelines.
Other duties may be assigned.
Job Expectations Follow established guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures, prioritize work to achieve optimal patient outcomes, process information, maintain a safe work environment, and demonstrate ability to deliver care adjusted to developmental level and cultural differences of the population served.
Training
Five‑week training program, scheduled full‑time Monday‑Friday daytime hours.
First week includes remote orientation 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.
Subsequent weeks combine on‑site sessions during early morning hours (5:00 am‑1:30 pm or 6:00 am‑2:30 pm).
Qualifications
At least 18 years of age.
Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program OR
Completion of 3 months of full‑time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience OR
Enrollment in the final year of an MLT or MLS program.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity.
Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting.
