Serviceability Design Engineer - GM Defense
Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate will report to Warren, Michigan or Milford, Michigan at least three times per week, with location choice based on candidate preference and business need.

Role Overview Within the Integrated Product Support (IPS) organization, the Service and Sustainment Engineering Operations team is responsible for the service deliverable readiness of every GMD vehicle globally. This includes Service Part release, Technical Manuals, Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC), Repair Parts & Special Tools (RPSTL), diagnostic software, service programming, pre‑delivery inspection forms, and customer service information. The Serviceability Design Engineer supports these deliverables for both electrical and mechanical components.
What You’ll Do
Lead identification of service parts for the development of the Service Parts BOM.
Support the development and validation of service special tools and procedures.
Provide support for emerging and quality issues.
Collaborate with Program Management, Product Engineering, Parts Release, Remanufacturing, Service Training, Warranty Center, Technical Assistance, Assembly Plants, Field Support, and suppliers.
Work with other department functions to implement cost reduction and math improvements while supporting all department programs.
Provide technical direction to support personnel as required.
Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations.
Stay abreast of new technology and industry practices.
Perform special assignments as requested.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology or related discipline.
1+ years of experience in Serviceability Engineering, Field Service, or Product Support.
2 years of professional experience.
Ability to read engineering schematics.
Familiarity with service information diagnostics and/or authoring.
Ability to make decisions autonomously, manage workload and escalate when necessary.
Strong analytical skills and expertise in data‑driven problem solving.
Ability to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).
Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire.

Illustration and graphics development skills.
Technical writing background.
Dealership technician experience or equivalent military experience.
Experience in Serviceability Design for military applications.
Experience working with suppliers.
