Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in the Village of West Jefferson, OH, just minutes from the western suburbs of Columbus and about 20 minutes west of downtown. The facility is a recent greenfield project producing high‑quality protein shakes for customers worldwide, reflecting a strong commitment to employees, community, and environment.
Responsibilities
Assumes personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace, adhering to all safety policies/procedures and incorporating safety and health in all job duties.
Adheres to safe work practices, follows GMPs, maintains sanitary conditions, and ensures product quality is maintained; reports any conditions that may adversely affect employee or food safety to management immediately.
Attends and actively participates in EHS meetings and trainings.
Ensures EHS regulatory compliance at all times.
Oversees the daily operation of the wastewater treatment system to ensure full permit compliance and operational reliability.
Works with Corporate environmental staff to ensure wastewater discharge reporting is done in full compliance, including sampling and reporting.
Leads and oversees all site environmental programs, including sustainability and air, waste, and water compliance programs.
In cooperation with Operations and HR Manager, leads Element 1 and acts as technical resource for all other SRMP teams.
Identifies employee EHS training needs, develops, and updates training materials.
Identifies unsafe work conditions through audits and takes appropriate action to eliminate them.
Maintains/monitors investigations, record keeping and follow‑up regarding all workplace accidents.
Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, EPA and other governmental agencies.
Works with workers’ compensation carrier and third‑party providers to ensure cost‑effective and appropriate handling of claims.
Determines requirements associated with personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintains and updates all written EHS programs.
Supports the management team in administering disciplinary actions for violations of EHS rules and policy.
Schedules and coordinates required industrial safety testing and monitoring.
Participates in company‑wide safety and training teams.
Actively supports other team members in their efforts to support facilities EHS programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety or related field (or equivalent work experience).
5+ years of experience in industrial safety and regulatory compliance.
Knowledge of OSHA standards, food safety regulations, and case management procedures for workplace incidents.
Skills & Competencies
Leadership & Influence – Ability to lead cross‑functional teams, drive strategic safety initiatives, and influence workplace culture.
Problem‑Solving & Risk Analysis – Expertise in root cause analysis (RCA), data‑driven decision‑making, and compliance assessment.
Training & Employee Development – Strong experience in adult learning techniques, facilitating safety meetings, and delivering compliance training.
Regulatory Compliance & Audit Management – Ability to interpret regulations, lead inspections, and execute compliance strategies.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present safety concepts effectively to all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and safety management systems (Intelex, SharePoint, SAP).
Preferred Certifications & Additional Requirements
OSHA 30‑hour certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Safety Management Specialist (SMS) certification preferred.
First Aid/CPR/AED certification highly desired.
Ability to work in cold, hot, wet, noisy, or dusty environments as required.
