Acquisitions Archivist – Washington State Archives
Location: Puget Sound branch, Bellevue College campus. Full‑time, Permanent. Geographic assignment pay: +5% for King County.
Description The Washington State Archives preserves and provides access to millions of legal and historical records. The Acquisitions Archivist plays a critical role in appraising, accessioning, arranging, describing archival government records, supporting research services, and outreach.
Duties and Responsibilities
Determine disposition of records using retention schedules and appraisal practices.
Arrange, describe, and perform weeding projects on archival records.
Create or update descriptive information for records, ensuring intellectual control.
Apply preservation tools to safeguard records.
Coordinate with agencies to pick up and transfer records.
Maintain the records management system with catalog entries.
Monitor storage environment for proper conditions.
Assist researchers and provide reference services.
Compile statistics and reports on acquisitions and reference services.
Conduct tours, coordinate special projects, and outreach activities.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in archives, records management, history, or a related field.
One year of experience as a professional archivist performing arrangement, description, digitization, record management, or retention schedule interpretation.
Proficiency with a personal computer and applicable software.
Preferred Qualifications
Collection management experience (selection, weeding, maintenance).
Experience with archives or records management software.
Experience with electronic records and providing reference services.
Ability to work independently and adapt to changing needs.
Digital imaging and Microsoft Office Suite skills.
Professional certifications such as ACA or SAS Digital Archivist Specialist.
