Purpose of Role The Footwear Developer II will drive footwear product development from brief to production‑ready confirmation. In this role you are responsible for building and supporting overall footwear cross‑functional teams with the best in class fit, comfort, performance, and global product integrity. This individual will focus on best practices and standards, find technical solutions, manage cost, lead project timelines, support UA’s sustainability strategy, and ensure consumer satisfaction with UA’s Footwear requirements.

Your Impact

Displays a strong understanding of advanced pattern engineering and subsequent costing, quality implications, model making, part drawings, drafting, 2D/3D documentation, mold making, materials, customs, patents, and most aspects of manufacturing processes.

Leads and manages multiple projects from brief through design, development, costing, and commercialization.

Plans and executes project development according to seasonal critical dates that result in on‑time sales sample delivery and production confirmation.

Uses manufacturing process knowledge to advance and achieve new manufacturing techniques that enhance overall product performance.

Mentors design and development personnel to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet cost and quality objectives.

Critiques, adjusts, and evaluates technical blueprints (outsole, midsole, upper), upper patterns, and materials from a performance, manufacturing, and functional perspective.

Leads Asia development trips as needed to work with manufacturers and suppliers on current and future projects.

Recommends and specifies material, component, and construction options to meet pricing targets and product functional goals, ensuring product performance integrity through testing.

Initiates and leads meetings with product teams during development phases to review, evaluate, update, and drive decision‑making toward on‑time production confirmation and margin goals.

Provides technical packages for assigned projects each season, including outsole/midsole blueprints, upper pattern packages, color maps, and specifications.

Creates and maintains BOM and fulfills development requirements in the Centric system.

Collaborates across cross‑functional teams using VR production creation as part of the sample round.

Communicates effectively with Asia Liaison Development, Design, Tech, Pricing, and Production to manage project sampling and confirmation.

Collaborates closely with category wear‑test analysts to manage product integrity, fit, and comfort throughout development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with typically 5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with typically 3 years of relevant experience, or 9 years of relevant experience without a degree.

Strong experience in Footwear, Biomechanical/Industrial/Chemical Engineering, with advanced knowledge of footwear product development and manufacturing.

Ability to work professionally and efficiently cross‑functionally within Under Armour, including Sales, Marketing, Production, and Operations.

Strong understanding of the working methods and cultural norms of source countries.

Program experience: Microsoft Suite, Adobe Illustrator, 3D viewer, and Centric.

Base Compensation $97,798.80 – $134,473.35 USD per year. Initial placement depends on relevant knowledge, skills, and experience. Base salary is one component of UA’s total rewards package.
