Job Summary
The Early Head Start Home Visitor works closely with the Associate Manager of Family Services and Homebased Programming and Family Community Advocates to ensure program compliance with Head Start Performance Standards. They provide continuous, comprehensive child development and family support services to children ages 0‑3 and their families, as well as expectant mothers. The Home Visitor conducts community outreach to recruit and enroll eligible families, uses a case‑management approach to assess families’ strengths and barriers, and links families to services within VOAC and the community. They empower parents to become their child’s first and best teacher and encourage parents to take leadership roles within the VOAC Early Childhood Education Center and the Denver Great Kids Head Start network, while facilitating parent training, events, and volunteer opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures that the participant’s voice is heard and incorporated in programming.
Facilitates Home Based Program in alignment with Head Start rules and regulations.
Responsible for outreach and recruitment with the Family Community Advocate Team to secure home‑based and center enrollments of eligible children; assists parents in meeting enrollment criteria and maintains a prioritized wait‑list for interested families.
Collaborates with the education coordinator, teaching team, Family Community Advocate Team, and community partners to design and implement activities that increase parent involvement in program and community activities, and family literacy activities.
Develops rapport with families through ongoing communication, home visits, phone calls, and referrals.
Utilizes the Child Plus database for tracking enrollment, attendance, recruitment, referrals, in‑kind services, and actions the family services team takes to support families.
Develops individualized, flexible, accessible, and responsive choices for each family’s strengths and needs, and assists families to define and set attainable goals.
Attends orientations, trainings, education programs, staff meetings, community meetings, conferences, and workshops to meet the needs of the position.
Advocates for families when needed to help them navigate social service systems.
Organizes client files and ensures required documentation is up‑to‑date and in compliance with Head Start and licensing requirements.
Performs all duties in a professional manner, adhering to the NASW Social Work Code of Ethics, NAEYC code of ethics, and maintaining confidentiality of all information.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and willingness and ability to obtain an Early Childhood Professional Credential Level III within 3 months.
Bilingual in English and Spanish; able to translate both verbally and in writing.
Experience with case management and family support required.
Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and state‑mandated automobile insurance.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social work or early childhood education.
Experience working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
Infant Mental Health endorsement.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of the NASW Social Work Code of Ethics, NAEYC code of ethics, and the ability to obtain a PDIS level and implement them in practice.
Familiarity with motivational interviewing techniques and skills.
Familiarity with Trauma‑Informed Practice.
Experience or knowledge of SMART goals and facilitation of creating SMART goals with clients.
Pay Range Hourly, Non‑exempt: $19.00/hr – $24.00/hr. Language differential: $1.00/hr.
Hours Full Time, 40 hrs/week; occasional weekends (Saturday) for recruitment fairs and parent engagement activities.
