Eaton’s Critical Power Solutions (CPS) Division is currently seeking a Field Service Technician to join our team of world‑class customer service professionals. This position is based in the greater Pleasanton, CA/Bay Area. It will be located remotely and will work out of a home office within the immediate geographic area.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $70,000 - $99,000. This figure is a general guideline only; salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications as well as market and business considerations.
What You’ll Do Eaton’s CPS Division designs, manufactures, and services Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, batteries, and electronic‑based products to ensure power reliability in the most demanding applications. Your responsibilities will include:
Performing on‑site emergency repairs, start‑up services, and preventative maintenance in an on‑call environment with regional responsibility.
Providing technical support to customers and serving as a technical advisor for operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment for UPS systems, power distribution units, and batteries.

Required (Basic) Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Minimum of two (2) years of Power Systems, Battery technologies and/or Electronics experience (coursework and internship experience apply).
Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted State Driver’s license.
Ability and willingness to undergo and pass customer entrance requirements, including periodic background checks and drug screenings.
Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
Position is remote within the greater Pleasanton, CA area; all candidates must reside within this area (Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical requirement).
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or related field from an accredited institution, or currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering program from an accredited institution.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with Power Systems, Battery Technologies and/or Electronics.
Ability to read schematic drawings and knowledge of troubleshooting, test and repair techniques.
Electrical Technology Certificate from an accredited institution.
Skills
Frequent travel to customer sites is required, with up to 30% drive‑time.
Ability to work with other Field Service Technicians and take directions from the lead Field Service Technician on site.
Capability to perform tasks such as repetitive lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, standing, climbing, squatting, bending, kneeling, or driving extended distances.
Ability to lift 50 lbs or more using lift‑assist equipment or a two‑person lift.
Good understanding of single‑phase and three‑phase circuit theory; analog and digital electronic circuit theory; and microprocessor controls and programming.
Understanding and use of oscilloscope; phase rotation and phase alignment checks.
Basic understanding of network functionality and sealed/wet‑cell battery theory and application.
Proper use of hand‑tools and insulated tools when appropriate.
Compliance with safety policies and customer rules on safety.
Proficiency on products and field processes before field dispatch.
High quality of service, self‑starter, motivational attitude.
PC proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Office, and Outlook.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Customer support outside immediate region within the USA as needed.
