Job Purpose The purpose of this position is to support engineering testing in the development of world class rail products. The work involves independent judgement, decision making, and creativity to solve system level problems, upgrade process equipment and determine test & measurement opportunities & options.

Key Job Elements

Provides process & measurement support for vehicle & engine testing;

Understands system level interactions of processes & equipment to both support existing systems and create new system/equipment designs & implementations;

Full cycle project management, from defining customer requirements through system commissioning and operation;

Develop comprehensive project plans and technical solutions for test programs & facility modifications;

Works with other engineering groups, suppliers, purchasing, plant personnel, etc. to deliver projects;

Works with remote manufacturing sites in support of their test operations & facilities.

Education / Training

BSME + 5 years experience, BSMET + 5 years experience or AS/AAS/AES in a mechanical field + 10 years experience.

Qualifications and Experience Required Working knowledge of:

Microsoft Office suite & Project;

Data acquisition systems;

Ability to read and create P&IDs, schematics & drawings;

Awareness of PLC logic & controls;

Ability to understand complex systems;

Travel may be required up to 25% of the time.

Preferred Working knowledge of:

Siemens NX & Teamcenter;

Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 & FactoryTalk;

A&D Adapt & iTest;

DewesoftX;

SAE J1939, or other CAN protocols;

Building Codes, NFPA Codes & Standards, FM Global data sheets;

EPA test methods and requirements;

Engine & genset testing, specifically for large diesel engines.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium‑level lifting (up to 30 pounds);

Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment;

Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;

Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non‑temperature‑controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;

Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards;

Safety – Position is safety sensitive, as it requires working in and around live tracks and operation and repair of heavy equipment. Position requires strict adherence to safety policies (i.e., blue flag) and use of all PPE.
