Assess patient eye condition. Examine and test eye vision and defects. Refer for minor and major eye surgery. Prescribe effective medication for eye problems. Prescribe the use of eye glasses, contact lenses, eye drops and other eye drugs. Give prior advice to the patient conditions. Write referral notices to doctors. Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness. Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases if state laws permit. Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids. Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors. Remove foreign bodies from the eye. Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care. Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision. Refer for vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation. Able to diagnose other major medical diseases. Refer patient to other physicians. Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the clinic’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Attain all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the clinic’s overall mission. Responsibly follow the clinic Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens. Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. Requirements
