Overview

Transportation Engineering Technician (TET) III/ Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management team out of our Columbia, MD office. The opportunity supports Road and Bridge Projects at State Highway Administration (SHA) District 2 (Cecil and Kent Counties, MD). Responsibilities

Provide daily site inspections of contractors’ work on highway, bridge, structural steel repairs, welding, painting, electrical, environmental or other complex construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications and maintain up-to-date project records. Conduct routine field tests on construction materials such as slump test, air content test, and compaction tests. Measure and record material placed for periodic contractor payments. Prepare daily inspection reports and/or logs that describe number of employees on a job site, amount of work performed, and materials used, weather conditions, accidents on the job site and equipment use. Work in various weather conditions and terrains and will be available nights and weekends as needed. Work effectively with others. Understand and follow instructions. Measure and record pay items. Communicate conditions and field conflicts/changes to Owner. Work closely with other team members, along with personnel from utilities, state, local, and federal agencies. Demonstrate independent and effective problem solving/decision making. Qualifications

High school diploma 3 years of experience in Roadway and Bridge construction. Experience in field inspection, or construction supervision of civil works projects (earthwork, roads, utilities, infrastructure, bridges, paving, drainage, etc.). Must possess knowledge and experience in American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and other miscellaneous construction testing requirements, as well as knowledge in construction inspection procedures, and inspections methodologies, including the use of nuclear gauges, concrete sampling, and construction safety. Mid-Atlantic Region Technician Certification Program (MARTCP) Certifications, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 and Erosion and Sediment (E&S) Certifications preferred. Prior experience with Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) State Highway Administration (SHA) is desired. Dependable transportation is required. Valid driver’s license. Ability to pass a background test. Must have good verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Must be fluent in both written and spoken English. Benefits and Compensation
