Senior Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear Pipe Stress
Black & Veatch is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for Nuclear Pipe Stress. This full‑time staff role will focus on design and analysis of nuclear pressure piping and supporting systems. Overview
The engineer will act as a technical expert or lead on the Mechanical Piping Team, performing detailed stress analysis, coordinating with domestic and international offices, and ensuring compliance with ASME Section III, ASME B31.1, and related nuclear standards. Responsibilities
Perform, verify, and direct piping stress analysis to ensure compliance with ASME Section III, ASME B31.1, and client/jurisdictional requirements. Conduct detailed stress analysis of metallic piping, evaluating elevated temperature service, equipment loads, vibration, pulsating service, flow‑induced vibration, and transient loads. Coordinate work between domestic and international offices; assign tasks to team members on complex projects. Initiate coordination with other disciplines to identify and resolve details of the work. Prepare purchase specifications and administer pipe support purchase orders with domestic and international suppliers. Prepare and qualify pipe support designs to satisfy all code and project requirements. Engage with clients to understand interests and drivers through normal contact and interaction with project leadership. Mentor and train junior engineers; expand knowledge in other disciplines and functional areas. Travel to job sites for walk‑downs and hanger inspections of existing and new‑build facilities. Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in nuclear pipe stress analysis and piping design. Technical depth with ASME BPVC Section III‑1 NB (Class 1), NCD (Class 2 & 3), NF (Supports), ASME NQA‑1, and ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code. Intermediate knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5 (High‑Temperature Reactors). Working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, II, VIII; API, ASTM, and AWWA standards. Experience with AutoPIPE stress analysis software; intermediate knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical and basic FEA principles. Strong procurement and contract administration skills; familiarity with project controls and estimating. Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverables and supervise large project teams. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience in engineering work. Minimum 11 years of related work experience. Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor‑vehicle records). Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) for Black & Veatch projects. Certifications

Typical office environment; prolonged computer use and ability to focus on detail throughout the workday. Physical tasks during site visits: crouching, grasping, standing/walking for extended periods.
