Power Systems Engineer III

– Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) As a Power Systems Engineer III, you will analyze future operating conditions on the Bulk Electric System (BES) and determine actions needed to support maintenance and construction of new electrical facilities. You’ll perform power‑flow and stability studies at both the transmission and generation levels to ensure grid reliability, using some of the best tools in the industry to solve critical challenges as MISO prepares for the grid of the future. Responsibilities

Build power‑system models in EMS/PSSE for near‑term and long‑term analysis. Run power flow, contingency, and voltage/transient stability analyses. Conduct dynamic and transient stability studies to assess system performance under various scenarios. Identify outage‑driven congestion and recommend mitigation strategies to ensure grid reliability and market efficiency. Make decisions to approve, reschedule, or deny outages based on detailed engineering analysis. Coordinate outages with MISO stakeholders, ensuring best practices and timely planning. Lead or contribute to innovative automation projects and process‑improvement initiatives. Collaborate with internal teams such as Real‑Time Operations, Market Operations, and Transmission Planning to support system reliability and resilience. Performance Expectations

Run an internal outage coordination process cycle. Develop at least one process‑improvement initiative. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology. At least four years of relevant work experience. Preferred: completed courses in Power Systems. Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $106,000.00 – $131,000.00 USD annually. Position eligible for an annual bonus based on performance. Includes 401(k), vacation, sick and paid time off starting the first day of employment. About MISO
