Job Summary A Mechatronics Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Painted Post, NY area. This role will design, develop, install, and troubleshoot complex automation and control systems (PLC/PC-based) in a manufacturing/research environment, requiring strong mechanical/electrical knowledge, design software proficiency, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Responsible for providing mechanical and electrical support for the design, installation, start-up, and debug of manufacturing or research process equipment.

Works within a multi-functional team (mechanical, electrical, controls, facilities, IT, operations, etc.).

Applies principles of control systems, instrumentation, motion systems/robotics, programming, mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and machine design.

Designs, develops, and implements mechatronic systems and solutions to improve automation and manufacturing processes.

Coordinates team members' tasks and work plans to meet customer schedules.

Provides hands‑on input and insight into equipment installation and troubleshooting.

Designs and integrates PLC/PC based process and automation controls.

Verifies equipment build and layout against drawings.

Ensures safe work practices and updates drawings and equipment documentation.

Skills

Well versed in basic electrical engineering principles.

Skilled with design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor) and controls software (Rockwell, Omron, or Beckhoff).

Understanding of electrical panel layouts, schematics, system testing, and safe troubleshooting techniques.

Experience using the scientific method to execute and analyze experiments.

Ability to collaborate and work with diverse teams.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Capacity to multitask and work with minimal direction.

Basic project management skills (scoping, budgeting, timelines).

Experience with mechanical equipment design/debug in a research environment and hands‑on wiring.

Familiarity with IEC 61131‑3, C, C++, Python, and MATLAB is desirable.

Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information to various stakeholders.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related degree with a focus on automation and control systems.

Minimum of 3 years of industry experience.
