Sr. Staff Software Engineer

CDN, distributed caching, and edge networking
to join our rapidly growing
Edge team.
You’ll play a critical role in designing and optimizing how content is delivered across our global infrastructure—ensuring performance, reliability, and security for millions of customer websites worldwide.
The Day-to-Day
Design, develop, and deploy CDN configurations that ensure high availability, performance, and scalability across diverse customer environments (eCommerce, media, presence, etc.).
Provide technical leadership and guidance on networking and cloud security best practices, including edge computing technologies.
Implement, maintain, and consult on edge security solutions—such as WAFs, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS)—to protect against external threats.
Stay current on emerging cloud and edge technologies, security trends, and industry best practices to strengthen WP Engine’s cloud security posture.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security controls into our edge networking solutions and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Proactively look for ways to automate and optimize network and CDN operations.
Enhance observability services to improve feedback loops and aid in troubleshooting and performance monitoring.
Work closely with Product Management to ensure engineering efforts deliver measurable customer value.
Contribute to a culture of learning, mentorship, and technical excellence within the engineering organization.
Your Expertise Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years of hands‑on software development experience in CDN engineering, networking, or cloud platform functions.
Deep knowledge of HTTP technologies, including reverse proxies (e.g., WAF, CDN) and forward proxies (e.g., secure web gateways).
Strong experience developing in Go (primary language used on the team).
Experience with cloud and containerized technologies — GCP, AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker.
Proven ability to design and troubleshoot complex, scalable network and security systems.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Demonstrated track record of building resilient, enterprise‑grade distributed systems.
Experience with large‑scale public cloud deployments.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., SOC-2, NIST, CIS) and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO/IEC).

Base Salary Range $160,000.00 - $240,000.00
