First Citizens Bank – Software Engineer II – Full‑Stack (Hybrid, Raleigh, NC or Phoenix, AZ)
Overview This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office. We are looking for a Software Engineer II with strong experience across Java, React, Python, and modern data orchestration tools like Apache Airflow and NiFi.
Responsibilities
Develop scalable backend services using Java (Spring Boot) and Python.
Build and manage orchestration workflows using Apache Airflow and Apache NiFi.
Design and maintain cloud‑native data pipelines and services on AWS.
Collaborate with front‑end engineers to integrate React‑based UIs with backend APIs.
Implement and manage APIs for system integration, automation, and observability.
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and cloud deployment strategies.
Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.
Ensure performance, reliability, and security of distributed systems.
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience in application software programming OR High School Diploma or GED and 6 years of experience.
Preferred
Proficiency in Core Java, Java Spring Boot framework and Python for backend development.
Hands‑on experience with Apache NiFi and Apache Airflow.
Frontend experience with React and RESTful API integration.
Strong database skills (PostgreSQL, MSSQL, JSONB, data modeling).
Experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS).
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, ECS, EKS).
Strong understanding of API development, cloud architecture, and DevOps practices.
Strong knowledge of release and configuration management tools (Gitlab, Jenkins, Git, Azure DevOps).
Proficiency in SQL databases and experience with data migration/integration processes.
Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve issues during the release process.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with event‑driven systems and messaging tools (Kafka, SQS, etc.).
Exposure to infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform or AWS CDK.
Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, CloudWatch, Grafana).
Hands‑on experience with building data pipelines in Snowflake.
Understanding of data governance, security, or lineage tooling.
Experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies.
