Overview The

Business Development Specialist

works closely with the Strategic Business Unit’s (SBU) Leadership, Business Development, Marketing, and Communications (BDMC) departments to drive marketing and business development projects for the Transportation, Manufacturing, and Technology (TMT) SBU. The role develops a deep understanding of the SBU’s attorneys, client base, and market capabilities, and communicates the firm’s value proposition to a variety of audiences.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the TMT SBU’s attorneys, client base, experience, and market capabilities, communicating the firm’s value proposition.

Collaborate with BDMC to create clear, persuasive marketing and client‑facing materials such as pitches, RFPs, presentations, and informational sheets.

Research and produce reports, distilling key findings into concise summaries and actionable insights for attorneys.

Support planning and implementation of business development and marketing projects, including deliverables and ROI analysis.

Own an industry vertical within TMT, driving initiatives and reporting on progress.

Identify cross‑sell opportunities, drive campaigns, and grow client relationships.

Maintain and organize data in business development databases (e.g., RFP/pitch, representative experience, SBU budget requests, ROI).

Research profile‑raising opportunities for partners and key practices. Raise the SBU’s visibility through speaking engagements, sponsorships, advertising, PR, social media, and other activities.

Assist with strategic planning and execution of SBU events and webinars, including attendee analysis and follow‑up support.

Collaborate cross‑functionally with BDMC and other departments to advance initiatives and projects.

Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance business development activities.

Support other responsibilities as assigned to advance SBU and firm‑wide development efforts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

3+ years of relevant experience, preferably in a law firm, professional services, or related environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to draft compelling proposals and client materials.

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and internet research tools.

Knowledge of InterAction and Foundation a plus.

High level of maturity and confidence to interact with sophisticated clients.

Professional appearance and courteous demeanor with attorneys and colleagues.

Strong organizational, time‑management, and prioritization skills; able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Ability to adapt to changing business needs and initiate, create, and lead short‑ and mid‑term projects.

Exceptional writing skills with a proven record of clear, persuasive, error‑free communications.

Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, high‑quality work efficiently.

Professional integrity; maintain confidentiality and build trust.

Resourcefulness, problem‑solving, and initiative.

Compensation and Benefits Employees receive compensation commensurate with skill, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. Expected compensation ranges by state are:

California: $60,000 – $114,000

Colorado: $55,000 – $98,000

Illinois: $54,000 – $105,000

Massachusetts: $60,000 – $114,000

Maryland: $58,000 – $88,000

Minnesota: $60,000 – $99,000

Jersey City, NJ: $65,000 – $117,000

New York: $56,000 – $120,000

Vermont: $59,000 – $113,000

Washington: $58,000 – $110,000

Washington, D.C.: $77,000 – $113,000
