Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Triage Nurse provides professional telephone triage nursing services to Hoag Clinic patients. This role performs detailed evaluation of patient symptoms and determines urgency of patient condition, facilitates next steps in patient care, makes recommendations for escalation of care, and provides appropriate medical advice on treating symptoms. The nurse also provides patient education and incorporates available education material, communicates changes in patient condition to the healthcare provider, responds to emergency situations, and collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to ensure quality patient care. The nurse documents all nursing services in the patient record, utilizes evidence‑based nursing processes, facilitates appropriate utilization of healthcare resources, enhances the patient experience, and provides services in compliance with all applicable regulatory and professional standards, including the California Nurse Practice Act. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
– Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Experience
– Seven (7) years clinical nursing experience required.
Basic keyboarding skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Strong clinical documentation knowledge and skills.
Preferred Experience
Two (2) years in an ambulatory care setting and/or in telephone triage.
Knowledge of electronic medical record systems.
Knowledge of patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification processes.
License
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in good standing in the State of California.
Certifications Required
Current BLS certification.
Certifications Preferred
