The role We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic Associate Scientist to join the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) team. The role requires hands‑on laboratory benchwork and scientific rigor to produce nucleic‑acid therapeutics. The successful candidate will work cross‑functionally with internal teams and external labs to advance the FL87 platform.
Key responsibilities
The team responsible for the production and characterization of nucleic‑acid therapeutics.
Synthesize and purify routine nucleic‑acid products for preclinical studies.
Optimize and scale up enzymatic reactions for nucleic‑acid synthesis (mRNA, DNA).
Develop, optimize, and scale up purification workflows using chromatography, filtration, and enzymatic reactions to remove by‑products and/or endotoxin.
Operate and maintain lab instruments, including Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography (AKTA) systems, Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) systems, biosafety cabinets (BSCs), and incubators.
Characterize nucleic‑acid drug substance using analytical techniques, such as HPLC, fragment analysis, UV spectroscopy, gel electrophoresis, endotoxin measurement, and fluorescence.
Maintain up‑to‑date records and communicate results with team members through written technical reports and oral presentations.
Interpret and summarize experimental data, maintain detailed laboratory notebooks.
Qualifications
M.S. with 6+ years of academic or industry experience in nucleic‑acid manufacturing.
Ph.D. preferred.
Attention to detail, multitasking ability, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong record‑keeping and data management skills.
Adaptable, eager to take on new challenges, naturally curious, and passionate about learning.
Experience working in fast‑paced startup environments.
Excellent organization skills and an efficient approach to tasks.
Ability to analyze, summarize, and communicate scientific data.
Ability to work independently while effectively engaging and collaborating within a team environment.

The salary range for this role is $96,000 – $126,500. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience. FL87 currently offers healthcare coverage, annual incentive program, retirement benefits and a broad range of other benefits. Compensation and benefits information is based on FL87’s good faith estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future.
