Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development
Location: Hanover, NH | Salary: $151,300 – $180,000 | Posted: 07/28/2025 (Open Until Filled)
Position Purpose The Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development is charged with strategic oversight of Dartmouth’s growing athletics fundraising and stewardship program.
The role develops and executes a strategic plan that inspires new levels of engagement, commitment, and philanthropic support from alumni, parents, and friends, including growth in annual unrestricted, capital, and endowment gifts that support Athletics priorities.
The incumbent reports to the Vice President for Development and works closely with key athletics leadership, donor advisers, and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan for Athletics, including unrestricted, capital, and endowment gifts.
Spearhead initiatives focused on Athletics fundraising and report progress toward goals.
Collaborate with Development fundraisers (Principal Gifts, Leadership Giving, Family Giving, the Dartmouth College Fund) and athletics principals to align fundraising strategies.
Maintain a personal prospect portfolio of 30–50 high‑net‑worth families and regularly review prospect pools.
Provide expertise on tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable giving and communicate this knowledge to prospects.
Lead special fundraising communications, events, and stewardship programs for Athletics supporters.
Staff Athletics Director at games, receptions, and regional advancement events.
Track fundraising metrics, evaluate KPIs, and recommend strategies to the leadership team.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
10+ years of relevant fundraising or development experience in higher‑education fundraising.
Demonstrated success in soliciting and closing six‑ and seven‑figure gifts.
Staff and volunteer management experience.
Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and prospect‑centered fundraising skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication; adept at presenting complex information.
Highly collegial, service‑oriented, and professional with a sense of humor.
Well‑refined organizational and project‑management skills.
Ability to travel, work nights, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Athletic fundraising experience.
Background in athletics and a demonstrated commitment to competitive excellence.
Campaign experience and experience fundraising in a large, complex operation.
Experience raising leadership gift funds for special projects and programs.
Strong executive communication and influencing skills.
