Position Summary The Class I Engineer is expected to perform highly skilled maintenance and repair duties for the property, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, and plumbing skills.
Qualification Standards Education & Experience
High School diploma or equivalent
Trade school or college course work in a related field
Previous customer service & hotel experience
At least 3 years’ practical experience in one or more of the technical trades (HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.)
Any license the property may require

Around chemicals, fumes and odor hazards
Around dust and or mite hazards
Long hours are sometimes required
Must be able to climb stairs, descend stairs
Must be able to move quickly and agilely if a situation requiring quick assistance arises
Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances
Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body and arms
Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels
Good communication skills required, fluency in English
Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately
Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary
Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from multiple sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of the need
Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests
Mathematical Reasoning - Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions
Other abilities, skills, knowledge
Refrigeration, electrical and plumbing skills, boiler operation and maintenance skills, water treatment and chiller operation knowledge
Must have a valid driver’s license
Working knowledge of all legal issues in compliance with CFC/EPA/ADA/IAQ/OSHA
Knowledge of energy management an asset
Duties & Functions Essential
Must be able to act as Assistant Chief Engineer during his/her absence and assume responsibilities
Must be able to work and manage the mechanical, guest room, public space, and PM programs
Must be able to manage the lights and grounds program
Make repairs to air conditioner(s) – change filters, clean coils, replace blower motors, etc.
Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, replace HVAC compressors
Take chiller readings and water samples
Take water heater readings and water samples
Test tower water and record data
Replace TV’s and cable boxes. Program movie channel boxes
Replace light switches, receptacles, and light bulbs
Perform furniture repairs
Check and replace pumps
Adjust chemical pumps as required
Perform plumbing repairs – open clogged drains, change FET washers, stems seats, cartridges, handles, drain fittings, etc.
Understand blueprints and wiring diagrams
Trace and repair drain and water lines
Keep immediate supervisors fully informed of all challenges or matters requiring his/her attention
Maintain preventive maintenance of HVAC systems
Repair kitchen equipment
Handle Dangerous Chemicals
Manage inventory program
Work unsupervised
Direct other engineering associates
Maintain legal documents, i.e. boiler log, PM logs emergency log
Work with contractors
Handle all aspects of Class 2,3 & 4 positions
Other duties as assigned
This hotel functions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Schedules are made based on business levels and are subject to change.
