Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy English Language Proficiency In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English Education - Please see the Education Section of the announcement for more information Licensure - Active - full - current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) - of the United States or the District of Columbia Grade Determinations (GS-03 to GS-06): GS-03: None beyond the basic requirements; LPNs at this grade level are expected to perform all duties within the scope of their license (e.g., medication administration) with possible higher-level review depending on duties GS-04: Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN/LVN or graduation from an approved school with one year of nursing care experience; or graduation from an approved school of at least 24 months GS-05: Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at GS-04; demonstrated knowledge to provide a full range of practical nursing care; ability to educate patients/families; support and train others; administer medications; and document actions GS-06: At least one year of additional qualifying experience at GS-05; proficiency in initiating and completing nursing duties; ability to observe, document, and respond to patient needs; administer prescribed medications; provide patient education; precept others; and promote patient privacy and dignity Duties include but are not limited to: Collaborates with surgery clinic providers, patients and families, social workers, nurse colleagues, and other professionals to manage specialty/surgical care Complete intake and check-in processes; record vital signs; pre-visit questionnaires; and clinical reminders Order labs, x-rays, ultrasounds, and other routine tests under standing orders Perform and document nursing care in ambulatory settings (immunizations, wound care, suture removal, catheter insertion, etc.) Support minor procedures, maintain sterile fields, and assist with specimen collection Administer medications per policy; monitor and document patient responses Recognize emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions; seek RN/MD assistance as needed Maintain equipment and supply readiness; report safety hazards Serve as a preceptor and educator to less experienced staff Support patient and family education on self-management, prevention, and wellness Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; shifts 0700-1800 with start times 0700-0930. Recruitment incentive may be authorized for eligible applicants; service agreement required.
