Position Summary The Dean of Students will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. Responsible for student discipline, behavior management, and crisis intervention, this person will collaborate with educators, parents, and administrators to ensure a safe and conducive learning atmosphere. This role involves implementing and enforcing school policies, mediating conflicts, and promoting a positive school culture. This person will play a key role in implementing a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework at the school. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively are essential for success in this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Promote a positive and inclusive school culture;

Implement programs and initiatives to enhance student engagement and morale;

Enforce school rules and policies;

Investigate and address incidents of student misconduct;

Implement disciplinary measures when necessary, ensuring fairness and consistency;

Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop and implement behavior management strategies;

Implement behavioral interventions and conduct progress monitoring;

Provide support and resources to teachers for managing classroom behavior;

Conduct counseling or guidance sessions with students to address behavioral issues;

Provide direct support to teachers in the implementation of the PBIS model;

Mediate conflicts between students and, if necessary, involve parents or guardians;

Work with teachers and administrators to address conflicts among staff members;

Conduct behavioral screening of students to establish the three tiers of the Response to Intervention Discipline Model;

Work closely with the Social Worker to ensure direct behavioral support for students in Tier three of the Response to Intervention Model;

Attend all training on the PBIS Model and conduct in-service training for the school site staff on the PBIS Model;

Provide consultation to teachers on appropriate behavioral strategies to use with students demonstrating negative classroom behaviors;

Generate reports involving academics, attendance, and discipline;

Monitor student attendance and work with school staff to address chronic absenteeism;

Triangulate and analyze data from reports and present findings to administrators and faculty;

Use Power School, PLASCO, Microsoft Office Suite, Performance Series, INFORM, or similar platform to track student’s performance and progress;

Analyze data from reports on student discipline and make recommendations for interventions; accommodations and modifications to improve behavior outcomes for students;

Participate as an active member of the PBIS team;

Assist the administration in implementing all Board Policies;

Strive to maintain and improve professional competence;

Assist in the development and implementation of behavioral accommodations for students in class settings;

Assist teachers in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and in developing Behavior Management Plans;

Serve as a member of the Student Assistance Team (SAT) as needed;

Stay updated on best practices in behavior management and discipline;

Attend relevant workshops and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge;

Perform other related jobs as required.

Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree required;

Master’s degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in implementing and providing behavioral interventions and direct support for students using a proven Positive Behavior Support Model;

Excellent problem solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans;

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

The ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships with students, parents, and staff;

Knowledge of educational policies, regulations, and best practices;

Familiarity with crisis intervention procedures;

Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.

Salary $45,000 - $60,550 a year

Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting.

Performance Evaluation The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
