Job Summary The Corrections Lieutenant directs the work activities of correctional employees and maintains security within the institution, governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Primary Responsibilities

Supervise and oversee the work activities of correctional staff, including hiring, training, and evaluating performance.

Ensure safety and security through regular checks, monitoring inmate activities, and responding to emergencies.

Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain order and discipline.

Coordinate and supervise the movement and daily activities of inmates, including meals, work schedules, and transportation.

Prepare and maintain accurate reports on inmate behavior, incidents, and disciplinary actions.

Conduct inmate searches and inspections to prevent contraband and ensure compliance with facility rules.

Provide guidance and support to staff, fostering a positive and professional work environment.

Attend meetings and briefings to discuss security issues, incidents, and operational updates.

Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and community organizations to enhance public safety and inmate rehabilitation.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.

Ability to de‑escalate high‑tension situations calmly and effectively.

Proficient in monitoring behaviors and identifying potential security risks.

Conduct thorough security checks of buildings, grounds, and other public safety activities.

Familiarity with department policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Formal education equivalent to a high school diploma.

Three years of experience in correctional security or law enforcement, including two years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

Licensure and Certifications

Valid Arkansas driver’s license.

Other job‑related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.
