Senior Software Mainframe Engineer Immediate need for a talented Senior Software Mainframe Engineer. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity with long-term potential and located in Smithfield, RI, Merrimack NH (Hybrid). Pay Range: $55 - $65/hour. Employee benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave.

Key Responsibilities

Your Demonstrated Expertise ('DE') in defining, developing, and leading an interactive team to implement scalable application solutions

Your DE in mainframe application development, automation, and support, utilizing COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM, MQ-Series, and SQL

Your DE in mainframe performance tuning and capacity planning, including ways to reduce I/Os, CPU Time, MSUs, and MIPs, using Strobe, I Strobe, and Platinum Detector

Your DE in mainframe application development, including file format and comparison using File-AID; version management using Endeavour; debugging and unit testing using Intertest and Abend-AID; and job scheduling using Control-M

Schedulers

8 years of software development experience with large mainframe-based systems.

BS/BA or advanced degree, or equivalent experience preferred.

Solid hands‑on development skills in mainframe languages and technologies (Cobol, CICS, VSAM, JCL, utilities, FileAid, Endeavor, debuggers, schedulers, etc.).

Proficiency with the DB2 database management system and database processing concepts.

Knowledge of native stored procedures is a plus.

Deploy and support software releases into production environments.

Strong knowledge of and experience with the overall testing process.

Any knowledge or experience in distributed technologies, cloud computing, and/or Java programming is a plus.

Ability to work with business partners to help define requirements and solutions.

Provide estimates and scoping for proposed projects.

Ability to perform detailed analysis for maintenance and enhancement projects, both batch and online.

Proven and strong interpersonal and organizational skills, coupled with effective written communication skills.

Confidence to think and act strategically, share innovative insights, and offer creative solutions to deliver exceptional user experiences.
