Base pay range $220,000.00/yr - $230,000.00/yr
BIO is the premier biotechnology advocacy organization representing biotech companies, industry leaders, and state biotech associations in the United States and more than 35 countries around the globe. BIO members range from biotech start-ups to some of the world’s largest biopharmaceutical companies – all united by the same goal: to develop medical and scientific breakthroughs that prevent and fight disease, restore health, and improve patients’ lives. BIO also organizes the BIO International Convention and a series of annual conferences that drive partnerships, investment, and progress within the sector.
The Vice President, Investor Relations is an experienced Investor Relations executive with a deep understanding of the biotechnology sector and capital markets. Proven track record of building strategic relationships with institutional investors, analysts, venture capitalists, family offices and key stakeholders to elevate industry visibility and communicate complex scientific and financial narratives effectively. Adept at developing and executing comprehensive IR strategies that support member companies' access to capital, influence policy, and enhance market confidence. Skilled in financial communications, regulatory compliance, thought leadership, and translating technical innovations into compelling investment cases. Brings extensive experience collaborating with C-level executives, industry partners, and media within a trade association environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute comprehensive investor relations strategies aligned with BIO's strategic goals and objectives
Serve as primary liaison for investor relationships and engagement activities, including management of BIO's Investor Council (BIC)
Leverage investor networks to support BIO-sponsored events and initiatives within the biotech investor community
Design and implement investor relations initiatives that promote the biotechnology sector and support member companies’ visibility and access to capital
Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional investors, analysts, and financial media to position the biotech industry as an attractive investment opportunity
Provide guidance, resources, and platforms (e.g., investor forums, conferences, webinars) to help member companies improve their investor outreach and communications
Track investor sentiment, biotech market performance, and capital markets trends to inform association strategy and member support.
Qualifications Education and certifications
Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or advanced degree in finance preferred
Experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience in an IR role, history of successful relationship building, and a firm understanding of the biopharmaceutical business sector, investor landscape and capital raising process
Strong skills in interpreting financial data, market trends, valuation methods and capital markets
Familiarity with disclosure requirements, security regulations (i.e. SEC, IFRS, GAAP) and general compliance standards
Knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Experience with subscription databases (e.g., PitchBook, Bloomberg, FactSet, Capital IQ) and IR CRM platforms
Knowledge of tax and capital formation policies affecting the biotech industry (R&D tax credit, NOLs, etc.)
Prior experience working with trade associations, preferred
Physical requirements
Sitting/Standing: Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods (sitting at a desk, standing at a counter).
Reaching: Reaching for items on shelves or in cabinets.
Lifting/Carrying: Moving boxes, files, or other office equipment up to 15 pounds.
Using Hands/Fingers: Operating a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
Vision: Close vision for computer work and detailed tasks.
Fine Motor Skills: Using a mouse, keyboard, and other small office tools.
Required travel: limited (less than 10%)
