The Director, Global Library Services leads the transformation of Takeda’s library ecosystem into a digital‑first, data‑enabling capability that powers scientific decision‑making across R&D. This role oversees global operations, vendor partnerships, and knowledge platforms while driving the adoption of AI, automation, and scalable delivery platforms. The position is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is offered in a hybrid format.
Responsibilities
Lead the transformation of Global Library Services into a digital‑first, data‑enabling capability.
Update end‑to‑end library processes from user requests to consumable artifacts with modern standards.
Align library services and systems with Takeda’s enterprise R&D digital and data strategy, including AI integration.
Oversee global operations, vendor partnerships, and knowledge platforms to ensure timely, compliant, cost‑effective access to scientific information.
Serve as a subject matter expert on digital library trends, scholarly publishing, and copyright‑compliant AI use.
Integrate innovative knowledge‑management technologies such as machine learning and natural language processing.
Manage a complex budget, negotiate and oversee vendor contracts, and align expenditures with organizational priorities.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders (legal, procurement, IT, end‑users) to assess needs, evaluate vendor performance, and drive data‑driven decisions.
Design and implement engagement initiatives, needs assessments, and feedback loops to continuously improve services and resources.
Ensure library services comply with legal, regulatory, copyright, and data privacy requirements.
Qualifications
MLIS or MS in life sciences preferred.
At least 12 years of direct experience in a pharmaceutical, healthcare or science library.
Proven success leading a digital transformation of library systems, including API delivery and cloud‑based content platform integration.
Experience with advanced technologies such as machine learning, AI, and data analytics to drive innovation.
Familiarity with licensing, open access and permissions processes for digital content and AI.
In‑depth knowledge of copyright laws, fair use, licensing agreements, and permissions processes.
Strong scientific, bibliographic, and technical background to align library missions within R&D strategy.
Demonstrated leadership of remote/hybrid teams and managing cross‑functional collaborations.
Compensation and Benefits U.S. Base Salary Range:
$174,500.00 – $274,230.00
Short‑term and long‑term incentive plans.
