About the Opportunity The Fair Budget Coalition is hiring its first Deputy Director of People and Operations. This role will shape the systems, culture, and backbone of our organization as we grow the budget justice movement in DC. Working closely with the Executive Director, you will bring people‑centered operations and organizational stewardship to a small but mighty team rooted in racial and economic justice.
Key Responsibilities Human Resources and Culture Curation
Partner with the Executive Director to maintain a people‑first culture grounded in radical authenticity, collaboration, principled struggle and collective care.
Collaborate on organizational growth and structure.
Create staff development opportunities, shared learning, and values‑driven practice.
Build and refine processes that help staff and coalition partners thrive.
Financial Management
Partner with the Executive Director and Executive Committee on financial planning, budgeting, and reporting to ensure sustainability.
Oversee day‑to‑day financial systems, record‑keeping, grant calendar, forecasting, and cash flow.
Collaborate with the fiscal sponsor on payroll, HR, benefits, and vendor payments.
Manage vendor relationships and contracts.
Prepare financial reports and documents for funders and stakeholders.
Systems and Technology
Build and maintain systems that keep our coalition strong and accountable.
Oversee technology tools for staff, members, and donors.
Lead development and care of a CRM for membership, donor engagement and coalition relationships.
Manage website updates and vendor contracts.
Develop clear processes for communications, budgeting, staff development, and issue‑group coordination.
Ensure resources and guides are current and accessible.
Organizational Responsibilities
Work in person with the advocacy and organizing team one or two days weekly.
Attend weekly staff meetings, team check‑ins, annual retreats and help build agendas.
Participate in community spaces such as town‑halls, coalition gatherings, and budget‑season testimonies.
Required Competencies and Qualifications
Experience leading operations, finance, HR, and organizational systems in grassroots, advocacy, or movement spaces.
Strong communication and facilitation skills with a collaborative approach.
Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Approach work with humility, curiosity, and a sense of humor.
Experience in conflict resolution grounded in practices that honor relationships and community.
Deep commitment to racial and economic justice and an understanding of structural racism.
Salary and Location
Base pay range: $81,000–$100,000 per year.
Full‑time, hybrid position based in Washington, DC – about 40% in‑person (one day per week during the first 90 days).
