Position Summary
The Director of Hospice is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of hospice services. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care that aligns with the organization’s mission, regulatory standards, and fiscal goals. The Director leads a multidisciplinary team and fosters a culture of excellence, compliance, and patient-centered care. Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Provide strategic direction and oversight for all hospice operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs. Develop and implement short- and long-term plans to enhance service quality, patient outcomes, and staff engagement. Foster an inclusive, mission-driven culture that promotes collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Represent the hospice program in community outreach, partnerships, and strategic initiatives. Collaborate with the Business Development team to drive program growth and strengthen referral relationships, aligning initiatives with the organization’s mission and long-term strategic objectives. Clinical & Operational Oversight
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards (Medicare Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission, etc.). Supervise and support clinical leaders in nursing, social work, spiritual care, bereavement, and volunteer services. Partner cross-functionally to streamline referral and admission processes, ensuring timely patient acceptance, operational efficiency, and continuity of care. Oversee patient care coordination to ensure high-quality end-of-life care and family support. Monitor key performance indicators, quality metrics, and patient satisfaction outcomes. Financial Management
Assist in the development and management of the hospice program’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible resource allocation. Analyze operational data and financial reports to identify trends and implement efficiency improvements. Collaborate with leadership on forecasting, reimbursement, and growth strategies. Staff Development & Engagement
Recruit, mentor, and retain a skilled interdisciplinary team of hospice professionals. Promote education and professional development opportunities to maintain clinical excellence. Create an environment that values teamwork, compassion, and staff well-being. Regulatory & Quality Compliance
Lead continuous quality improvement and performance initiatives. Prepare for and participate in regulatory surveys and audits. Maintain up-to-date policies and procedures in compliance with governing agencies. Personal Attributes

Bachelor’s degree required Master’s degree preferred Experience
Eight (8+) years community health experience Five (5) years of Management and Supervisory experience. Recent Hospice experience Knowledge of hospice regulations and eligibility required.
