Job Description Summary We’re seeking a highly motivated and experienced transactional lawyer to provide best‑in‑class commercial support for PayPal’s largest partner and merchant deals. You will be a key legal advisor to Sales, Product, and other cross‑functional teams, defining deal strategy, analyzing business goals, structuring agreements, and closing complex high‑impact partnerships.
Essential Responsibilities
Lead complex projects that support business growth and innovation.
Provide expert legal advice on high‑stakes issues and disputes.
Support growing areas such as compliance, data privacy, and litigation.
Ensure compliance with laws and regulations, advising on new legal technologies and automation.
Manage legal risks and safeguard PayPal’s interests, developing risk‑management frameworks.
Represent PayPal in litigation and other proceedings.
Expected Qualifications
8+ years of relevant experience and a Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent.
Additional Responsibilities And Preferred Qualifications
Lead complex commercial deals across PayPal’s products.
Provide solution‑oriented advice on payments, consumer protection, privacy, IP, AI/agent frameworks.
Create scalable solutions to drive velocity.
Structure transactions across licensing, data use, integrations, go‑to‑market, and strategic partnerships.
Transform legal concepts into practical advice for senior leaders.
Balance risk thoughtfully with business goals.
Collaborate with Sales, Product, Engineering, Risk, Compliance, Privacy, Finance, and Regional Legal.
Build templates, playbooks, fallbacks, and training to accelerate negotiations.
Improve processes by streamlining approvals, clarifying roles, and increasing visibility.
Earn trust through directness, transparency, and follow‑through.
Model judgment and communication; mentor teammates and influence across functions.
Required
JD (or equivalent) and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
10+ years of legal practice, including 6+ years leading large commercial transactions.
Hands‑on experience supporting technology, fintech, or financial services.
Success in drafting and negotiating complex sales, marketing, licensing, and partner agreements.
Ability to issue‑spot, propose practical solutions, and drive decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
Excellent negotiation, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Strong organization and project management; comfortable juggling multiple time‑sensitive matters.
Preferred
Payments industry knowledge.
Experience with agentic commerce or AI technologies.
Expertise on data rights, privacy, and security terms in agreements.
Product counseling for platform integrations and go‑to‑market arrangements.
Global deal experience and regulatory familiarity affecting PayPal’s ecosystem.
Excitement by deal and regulatory complexity.
Compensation & Benefits The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $152,500 to $262,350. Compensation may include performance bonus, equity, and medical, dental, vision benefits.
