Summary: The General Superintendent Civil will manage project team members related to their craft, establish standards and training for the construction team, and report to the Field Operations Manager or designated management. This position is based in Ankeny, IA with a hybrid schedule and travel up to 50% of the time. Working hours are Monday through Friday, typically 8:00am–5:00pm or 9:00am–6:00pm local time.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Manage and lead the electrical superintendents and their craft throughout the duration of the project

Assist in developing detailed CPM schedules for all installation activities and in developing a schedule of values to aid the billing process

Coordinate activities, schedule, material procurement, project logistics, and temporary facility plans with the project manager and field staff

Review and approve materials/equipment for Civil construction and monitor the installation and startup of those activities, resolving any conflicts prior to starting work

Prepare reports and communicate progress to Project Managers/Directors as needed, and to project Owners during weekly meetings

Review contract documents and make improvement suggestions as needed

Supervise, develop, and mentor Civil Project Engineers

Supervise, review, and coordinate submittals and shop drawings

Collaborate with team members to ensure effective communication and results

Provide cost estimation, including but not limited to site due diligence, evaluating potential project sites as part of development due diligence

Identify and project costs related to time, materials, and labor

Track actual costs and assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services

Prepare cost reports showing current status, estimated costs, revenues, and project timeline

Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by Management

Required Qualifications

7+ years’ experience on site supervision

Proven track record as a Superintendent on large projects with values above $20 million (Civil portions)

Thorough knowledge of Construction Code

Mass grading experience

General understanding of building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes as they relate to civil construction

Experience with subcontracts and subcontractors

Minimum of 5-7 years managing major projects, preferably in building power stations or utility-scale construction

Minimum of 2 years of solar PV or wind project experience (preferred)

Industrial relations knowledge for recognizing and resolving labor issues

Knowledge of construction guides and manuals

Construction safety awareness and comprehension

Conflict management skills

Multitasking, organization, and scheduling abilities

Problem-solving, communication, and constructability knowledge across disciplines

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Fluent in written and spoken English; other languages a plus

Lead team meetings; assertive, able to cope with pressure, team player

Ability to travel up to 50% of the time

Physical Demands

Body position: standing and moving up to 90% of an 8–10 hour day

Access/egress to equipment; enter and exit equipment as needed

Move, bend, stand, stoop, and walk parts of the day

Lift up to 50 pounds as required

Hearing and speech: frequent communication with ability to hear and talk clearly

Sight: use of sight for computer screens and documents

Climb stairs as needed

Travel up to 50% as required

Noise levels vary from low to high depending on location

Flexibility to work night shifts
