Role purpose
The AI/ML Research Scientist will work with senior researchers and managers to perform research and development of AI/ML technologies, with primary focus on generative AI, natural language processing, and related areas. The position involves collaborating with project leads and R&D teams to customize and apply developed technologies to address customer problems and to perform cutting-edge AI/ML research under supervision. Responsibilities
Perform research and development of AI/ML technologies, with emphasis on generative AI. Collaborate with project leads and managers to tailor technologies to customer problems. Contribute to national strategies and policies by guiding decisions on integrating next-generation technologies like AI, satellite navigation, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Support safety validation efforts and lead teams on FAA programs as applicable. Work with R&D teams to apply AI/ML models and techniques, including NLP and generative AI, in real-world settings. Qualifications
Required:
U.S. Citizenship Required. Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance Bachelor\'s degree and 8+ years, Master\'s degree and 6+ years, or PhD and 3+ years in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field Demonstratable AI/ML research experience, and peer-reviewed publications are required unless similar qualifications can be demonstrated Expertise in one or more programming languages: C, C++, Python, JavaScript Hands-on development experience in AI/ML model building and tuning Hands-on development experience of agentic AI Experience with state-of-the-art large language models at the API level (familiarity with tool/function calling APIs) Modern software development practices and toolchains (Git, CI/CD) Desired:
Machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch Anthropics\' Model Context Protocol (MCP) End-to-end ML model and generative AI agent development experience Linux, containers (Docker), and orchestration tools (Kubernetes) Hands-on AI/ML development in cloud environments (e.g., AWS Bedrock) Full stack programming experience Azure cloud experience Compensation and notice
Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. Salary is determined by various factors, including scope of responsibilities, experience, education, location, and contract considerations. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonus may be available depending on the position. EEO:
