Vice President of Development

– Nashville Public Radio

We are seeking a transformative Vice President of Development to lead, empower, and align a talented team of fundraising professionals. The VP directs all philanthropic revenue strategy and development for the organization, reporting to the CEO and serving as a key member of the executive leadership team. The role focuses on building a sustainable, diversified revenue base to support programming, journalism, music, events, and public service missions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Fundraising Leadership:

Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive, multi‑year fundraising revenue strategy in collaboration with the team.

Campaign Oversight:

Manage campaigns, special initiatives, and semi‑annual membership drives.

Transformational Giving:

Partner with the CEO, Development Officers, and Board to identify, cultivate, and secure transformational gifts.

CRM & Data Management:

Oversee the donor database and CRM systems to ensure accurate tracking, segmentation, and reporting.

Communication & Storytelling:

Support team members in developing compelling donor communications and storytelling‑driven campaigns.

Board Advancement:

Serve as staff lead to the Board Advancement Committee.

Financial Management:

Create and manage the annual department budget with associated scorecard tracking outcomes quarterly.

Strategic Planning:

Partner with CEO and executive team to develop the organization’s strategic plan.

Major & Leadership Giving:

Expand major donor pipeline ($10,000+), deepen mid‑level giving, launch planned giving, and explore capital campaigns.

Institutional Philanthropy:

Expand foundation and philanthropic partnerships, oversee proposal development, funder cultivation, and impact reporting.

Team Leadership:

Lead, mentor, and grow a high‑performing development team across major gifts, membership, institutional giving, donor communication, analysis, and events.

Collaboration:

Work with corporate support, newsroom, events, and operations to align fundraising with organizational priorities.

Digital & Membership Growth:

Collaborate with Membership and Digital teams; innovate digital fundraising, audience conversion, and donor analytics; oversee membership events program.

Requirements

10+ years progressive leadership in nonprofit fundraising; experience in philanthropic, media or cultural institutions strongly preferred.

Demonstrated experience leading integrated fundraising teams.

Proven track record of securing six‑ and seven‑figure gifts.

Deep understanding of membership models, digital fundraising, institutional giving, and corporate sponsorships.

Exceptional relationship‑building, communication, and team leadership skills.

Strategic thinker with data‑informed approach to donor and revenue growth.

Commitment to reflecting the entire community in donor engagement and staffing.

Knowledge and ongoing engagement with Nashville’s philanthropic landscape is a strong plus.

Key Performance Indicators

Growth in overall contributed revenue year‑over‑year.

Strengthened donor pipeline health and retention.

Membership retention and digital membership conversion rates.

Year‑over‑year expansion of major donor and mid‑level donor bases.

Increased collaboration and efficiency across fundraising functions.

Positive donor engagement as measured by survey and qualitative feedback.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to Chief Executive Officer.

Works closely with Board of Directors.

Leads Advancement Committee of the Board.

Direct Reports: Development team leads (Major and Mid‑Level Gifts, Membership, Institutional Giving).
