Expansion Microscopy Scientist
at
Eon Systems PBC
Base pay range $82,000.00/yr - $118,000.00/yr
About us:
At Eon, we are at the forefront of large-scale neuroscientific connectomic data collection. Our mission is to enable the safe and scalable development of brain emulation technology to empower humanity over the next decade, beginning with the creation of a fully emulated digital twin of a mouse within the next two years.
Role:
Collaborating with a diverse team, including product managers, researchers, and engineering departments, your role involves the processing and staining of brain tissue in preparation for volumetric optical imaging. You will contribute to a pipeline that robustly stains large tissue sections and processes them with cutting‑edge expansion microscopy techniques.
Responsibilities
Optimise robust staining of large mammalian neural tissue.
Help develop an expansion microscopy pipeline producing reproducible outcomes.
Work with both animal researchers and macroscopists for upstream and downstream pipeline development.
Iterate on established tissue processing methods to produce optimised and new methods.
Execute on signal amplification approaches to realize high signal‑to‑noise samples.
Validate antibodies for successful staining.
Characterise tissue processing using fluorescence microscopy and work to integrate samples into a microscopy pipeline.
Skills and Benefits
Experience with screening antibodies for high quality immunofluorescence.
Experience with techniques that enable high‑volume, high‑resolution imaging of biological tissues such as Expansion Microscopy, CLARITY, or other modern tissue processing methods.
General familiarity of neuroanatomy with an eye for proper tissue architecture.
Fundamental understanding of fluorescence and fluorophore labeling chemistry.
Ability to perform straightforward bioconjugation chemistry.
Familiarity with standard fluorescence microscopy techniques as well as advanced techniques such as confocal and light‑sheet microscopy.
Key Projects
Develop protocols that result in the timely staining of thick (>1 mm) tissue samples with antibodies and small‑molecule stains.
Synthesis of staining reagents, such as antibodies, that possess a high intensity of fluorescent signal.
Processing of an entire mammalian brain via serial sections for microscopic analysis.
Performing Expansion Microscopy regularly on tissue samples and pushing the state of the art in the field.
Salary and Benefits Competitive salary and equity.
Seniority level Entry level
Employment type Full‑time
