Assistant Nurse Manager - Pre-Op/PACU
Job Summary
Under general supervision of the OI Nurse Manager and guided by the procedures of the Medical Center, Ambulatory Services and the ASC, the Assistant Nurse Manager assists in ensuring the quality of patient care in the OI Pre‑Op/PACU and OI Periop areas, serving as a role model for professional nursing practice.
Responsibilities
Recruit, select, hire, train staff; coach, counsel, and complete performance evaluations.
Assure compliance with regulatory and patient‑safety goals.
Develop and implement policies and procedures that assure a high level of quality care.
Manage financial and budgetary aspects of the department, including revenue capture and expense control.
Support performance‑improvement initiatives.
Maintain close working relationships with specialty practices and supportive services to align goals with patient‑safety and service standards.
Supervise all clinical and clerical staff of the OI Surgery Center and facilitate positive interactions among staff, patients, and other departments.
Assist at bedside in clinical care as needed.
Provide management‑level coverage and share staff with the POPC Periop management team.
Qualifications
+2 years of nursing experience in Pre‑Op/PACU, including strong experience in orthopedics.
A minimum of 2 years of recent (within the past 5 years) leadership experience in Pre‑Op/PACU.
Demonstrated effectiveness as a nursing advocate.
Proven team‑building experience.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and self‑development.
Knowledge and ability essential to successful performance of duties assigned.
Effective supervision skills for clinicians; manage complex workflow and multiple priorities in clinic(s)/center(s); strong knowledge of practice operations.
In‑depth knowledge of patient‑care clinical standards, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.
Strong knowledge of human‑resources policies, training, monitoring, evaluating, documenting human‑resources issues and performance; participation in HR decision‑making.
Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills, ability to analyze problems, determine intervention level, develop and apply effective solutions.
Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration and problem‑solving with all levels of management, staff, consultants, and outside agencies.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to train and mentor subordinates; convey complex clinical and technical information clearly.
Strong knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data‑management systems used in clinic / center patient care (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, EPIC, etc).
Preferred Qualifications
OR experience.
Dedicated ASC experience in Pre‑Op/PACU.
Dedicated leadership experience in a dedicated ASC setting.
License/Certification
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
Registered Nurse in the State of California (RN)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
AHA CPR certification.

Salaries and Benefits Salary range: $113,500 - $258,100 (Annual Rate). The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the collective bargaining agreement.
