Senior Principal Power/Hardware Design Engineer - Emulation Acceleration Technol

Cadence is the leader in hardware emulation‑acceleration technologies and products. We are looking for a hands‑on Sr Principal Power/HW Design Engineer to expand their scope and grow their career. This position is located in our San Jose headquarters office, reports to the Engineering Group Director of R&D, and works in a growing talented organization.
This position requires power system design, schematic entry, collaboration with layout engineers for PCB layout, and bring‑up and support of the current hardware system platform.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for the power design, bring‑up and sustain of hardware system platform.
This person works with the mechanical team on the design of power delivery within rack.
Write specifications for PDU and PSU and work with outside vendors to design PDU and PSU.
Design, test, and verify power solutions (LDOs, switchers, buck converters, …) for boards.
Design, test, and verify rack power solutions.
Continuously develop and apply technical domain expertise in Hardware Engineering; maintain high competence in Electrical engineering; provide leadership and guidance to junior technical staff members.
Apply Electrical Engineering principles, concepts, methods, and global standards compliance to resolve design integrity, manufacturability, and quality issues.
Qualifications
BS with a minimum of 10 years of experience OR MS with a minimum of 7 years of experience OR PhD with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
Demonstrated leader guiding junior HW engineers.
Proven success in taking at least one system product from concept to production.
Experience with schematic capture software.
Strong communication skills, especially in creating plans and reports.
Familiarity with volume manufacturing methods and processes (plus).
Ability to lead and contribute to cross‑functional teams, demonstrate good interpersonal skills, operate independently, and manage multiple tasks.
The annual salary range for California is $154,000 to $286,000. Eligibility for incentive compensation: bonus, equity, and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive OTE incentive compensation structure. The salary range is a guideline and compensation may vary based on qualifications, skill level, competencies, and location. Our benefits programs include paid vacation and holidays, 401(k) plan with employer match, employee stock purchase plan, and a variety of medical, dental, and vision plan options.
