Executive Underwriter – Shepherd
We provide savings on insurance premiums for commercial businesses leveraging modern technology on their worksites. While we began with commercial construction, we are expanding into adjacent sectors, including Energy, Agriculture, and Real Estate.
Base Pay Range $185,000 – $228,000 per year
About the Role Shepherd’s underwriting approach is client‑centric with a heavy emphasis on an efficient process. Our goal is to leverage technology and data to make quick, informed decisions tailored to our clients’ specific needs.
Responsibilities and Requirements
Minimum of 7+ years of experience in commercial underwriting (Construction, Casualty, and/or Builder’s Risk preferred)
Comfortable with ambiguity
Strong work ethic, self‑motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
Exceptional verbal and written interpersonal skills with high EQ
Strong sales and marketing skills, able to position accounts and close deals
Develop and negotiate price, coverage, terms and conditions for new business and renewals while actively identifying target accounts that fit Shepherd’s underwriting appetite
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Demonstrated success in marketing, producer management, new business development, and negotiation at all levels with internal and external partners
Teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills required
Solid background in risk analysis and experience with construction and/or casualty underwriting
Knowledge and proficiency with compliance, coverage, products and pricing strategies
Adaptable and creative in a fast‑paced startup environment
