We are looking for a Shipping & Receiving Clerk to support the Engineering Research Support Organization (ERSO) at the University of California, Berkeley. The role involves receiving, storing, accounting for, and distributing equipment, apparatus, materials, and supplies across multiple campus buildings and laboratories.

ERSO serves the College of Engineering, College of Environmental Design, Computing, Data Science & Society, and other research institutes, and it requires a Shipping & Receiving Clerk to manage equipment inventory and logistics.
Responsibilities
Receives and verifies deliveries of equipment, supplies, and materials from vendors and campus departments, ensuring accuracy and inspecting for damage. Creates electronic receipts in the campus procurement system and records assets in the department’s tracking system.
Coordinates and facilitates returns of items purchased with university funds. Notifies ERSO purchasing staff about order discrepancies and supports return processes.
Delivers received packages timely to designated labs and offices, ensuring accuracy and retaining evidence of delivery.
Responds to inquiries from the ERSO community regarding shipment status and proactively communicates updates.
Prepares outgoing shipments to vendors or other universities, including labeling and packaging.
Keeps the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor informed of issues, maintains organized files on open requests, and tracks shipment‑related documents.
Equipment/Supply Inventory & Management
Assists with bi‑annual inventory by physically locating assets and taking photos or other evidence.
Coordinates with faculty or proxies to review asset lists.
Resolves status reports, tags new assets, and verifies assets in inventory every two years.
Supports the delivery and inventory of compressed gas cylinders.
Other Duties Assigned
Recommends improvements to the shipping and receiving function to the supervisor.
Secures workspace prior to leaving at the end of shift.
Adheres to all safety protocols.
Organizes and maintains cleanliness of all storage spaces.
Assists and coordinates removal and moving of excess or salvage items.
Required Qualifications
Experience in receiving or warehouse operations.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Regular attendance with dependable timelines.
Excellent customer service and effective communication with diverse clients.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.
Working knowledge of office software, scanning, and email.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to learn new package tracking systems (e.g., WITS) and enterprise procurement systems (e.g., BearBuy).
Forklift certification required and operation expected as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of BearBuy and campus procedures.
Experience in a comparable fast‑pace business environment.
