Summary A leading engineering firm in the Seattle area is seeking a skilled Lead Mechanical Engineer to lead and execute HVAC design projects across commercial and industrial sectors. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of mid-sized design/build projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality mechanical systems that meet energy efficiency and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, project leadership, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical design projects with minimal supervision.

Independently develop HVAC system designs from concept through construction documentation for multiple concurrent projects.

Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, energy regulations, and sustainability standards.

Perform detailed calculations and layouts for HVAC equipment, ductwork, and piping systems.

Apply engineering principles related to thermodynamics, acoustics, refrigeration, and control systems.

Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to align design intent with project goals.

Conduct energy modeling and cost-benefit analyses to support design decisions.

Participate in field activities including site assessments, troubleshooting, and construction support.

Maintain high standards for design documentation and model accuracy.

Communicate effectively with project stakeholders and team members.

Manage workload to meet deadlines and project milestones.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems, or a related field.

Professional Engineering (PE) license but not mandatory.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design within a design/build or consulting environment.

Strong grasp of HVAC systems, building codes, and industry best practices.

Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit required.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across disciplines.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds regularly.

Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for office and field work.

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands for extended periods.

Must be dependable and maintain consistent attendance.

Schedule

Standard workweek is Monday through Friday, typically starting between 7:00-8:00 AM and ending between 4:00-5:00 PM.

Includes one-hour lunch and two short breaks.

Occasional overtime may be required based on project demands.
