Job Summary The Director, Events is a member of the Advancement team at Chicago Booth and is responsible for driving the strategic direction of engagement, fundraising, and stewardship events including the planning, execution, and evaluation. The role works across the Booth Advancement team, partner teams at Booth and the broader University, to execute events that align with Booth’s market plans, vision, and annual goals. Managing three full‑time staff, the Director provides team development and direction. The position is based in Chicago and requires evening and weekend work as well as domestic and international travel.
Responsibilities
Strategy, planning, execution, and evaluation of all Chicago Booth Advancement‑driven events.
Lead strategist for global events with the Alumni Engagement, Individual Giving, and Annual Fund teams, aligning with department market plans, vision, and goals.
Lead representative for Booth Advancement‑driven events across Chicago Booth, University Advancement, and the University at large.
Oversee execution of strategic plans, policies, and procedures for Booth Advancement events. Set standards for event types, service levels, and measurable engagement.
Manage three full‑time staff members of the Advancement Global Events team, providing direction and coaching while working closely as a hands‑on member.
Manage multiple event budgets and track event‑related expenses and revenues.
Plan and execute logistics (facility selection, menu planning, transportation arrangements, A/V equipment) for organization meetings and special events, including high‑level events and staff management.
Develop and manage events budgets. Review post‑event feedback and analyses to determine actions to improve future events.
Perform other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
College or university degree in a related field.
7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Event planning and management experience.
Team management experience.
Budget management experience.
Background in higher education, specifically advancement or alumni relations.
Experience working with both internal and external partners.
Ability to think strategically, manage projects, communicate proactively with stakeholders, and solve complex challenges.
Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, with attention to detail and confidentiality.
Knowledge of current trends in fundraising and alumni relations.
Working Conditions
Position requires a minimum of three days per week in the office.
Travel to campus and/or non‑campus locations for University business.
Work evenings and weekends.
Travel by air domestically and internationally.
