Summary Continual and direct patient contact. Performs diversified tasks and duties associated with inpatient admissions, surgery, emergency and outpatient registrations. Facilitate patient payments and answers the CWH Switchboard. Discusses financial responsibility with patients, maintains accurate patient account information, verifies insurance and provides excellent service to all contacts. May participate in some Financial Counseling functions. Works closely with Clinical Staff including continual communication to ensure quality patient care. IT trouble shooting for Clinical staff and Physicians. Denial Management support and research.

Position Reports To Patient Access Manager

Essential Functions

Admit/register patients in a timely and efficient manner using multiple methods of communications (bedside, in‑person, over the phone, etc.). Obtain all required admission/registration information to ensure an accurate medical record is created. Perform insurance verification and accurately code insurance to provide accurate billing information.

Complete forms, applications and documents accurately and in a timely manner.

Complete daily work queues, self‑correct errors, participate in audits and performance improvement projects.

Answer incoming calls to the hospital including internal calls and page emergency codes per Confluence Health code protocol. Maintain physician on‑call schedule.

May participate in providing Financial Counseling to self‑pay and under insured patients. Demonstrate understanding of CCP and inform patients of our CCP process.

Demonstrate exceptional customer service and interact effectively with all patients, customers and members of the Health Care Team.

Escort OB patients and direct admits to their designated floor and room assignment.

Responsible to receive, document and return patient valuables on all floors.

Other duties as assigned.

Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.

Qualifications Required

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Must possess extensive computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication, internet and password management. Navigate between multiple programs simultaneously.

Ability to multi‑task, be accurate and have attention to detail while in a chaotic and stressful environment.

Ability to deal with an emotional environment, mental health patients, traumas, and visibly ill and injured patients.

Flexibility to work varied shifts, i.e. day, swing, night, weekend and holidays.

Desired

MA‑R helpful.

Medical terminology.

Proficient clerical skills and customer service.

Experience in payment collections.

Working Conditions

Working environment is primarily the emergency department working with very stressful and emotional situations. Also needs to be able to handle working with visibly injured and sick patients. Requires the flexibility to work varied shifts on short notice.
