We’re looking for a Product & IP Counsel to join our Legal & Stock team in our San Francisco office. This is a great opportunity to handle a wide variety of legal issues, including trademark, copyright, and patent prosecution; IP enforcement; domain name management and enforcement; marketing review; product legal support; and potentially some litigation and subpoena/law enforcement intake matters, depending on interest/experience. This position will work cross-functionally, including advising corporate and product marketing, product management, and R&D, as well as work with outside counsel on intellectual property (IP) matters. We are looking for a collaborative team player willing to dive in and bring a business-oriented, thoughtful, practical mindset to solving problems. This role reports to Asana’s Managing Product & IP Counsel; Head of Litigation. This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. Support a large marketing organization that covers product marketing, corporate marketing, brand, social media, community, and our internal research group. Work on Asana’s IP and domain name portfolio management and enforcement. Work directly with Product Marketing and product teams on go-to-market plans and materials. Partner with privacy, commercial, marketing, and corporate legal stakeholders to surface, communicate, and drive resolution around concerns relating to Asana product(s). Expand or gain experience in litigation matters and the intake of subpoenas and law enforcement requests. Work with product counsel on product and feature development and releases, including advising on general compliance issues related to SaaS companies (privacy, security, IP, contractual, export controls). About you
JD from an accredited law school and U.S-qualified (California bar membership or California registered in-house counsel preferred). 4+ years combined experience working in-house at a SaaS company as product or IP counsel and/or at a law firm counseling high-growth SaaS companies on IP matters. Strong collaboration skills and ability to work cross-functionally with lawyers and non-lawyers across the company. Creative and practical problem-solver, comfortable assessing risk, weighing tradeoffs, and advising on decisions in novel and complex situations. Experience in one or more of the following areas: IP management and enforcement, domain name management and enforcement, marketing review, and product support. Litigation experience preferred. Business and customer oriented with experience bringing diverse stakeholders to agreement. Familiarity with issue-spotting regulatory issues and supporting driving compliant solutions. Ability to breakdown legal concepts and explain them in plain language to non-lawyers with relevant contextual examples Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making. We believe that compensation should be reflective of the value you create relative to the market value of your role. To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we’re committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit. For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $202,000 - $229,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified. In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits.
