IT/OT Solution Architect – DeltaV Systems & Industrial Manufacturing Position Summary The IT/OT Solution Architect will design and implement integrated architectures that bridge information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems within a manufacturing environment centered around Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS). This role ensures seamless data flow between process automation, MES, and enterprise IT systems, supporting secure, compliant, and high‑performing digital manufacturing operations. The architect will lead the design of scalable, future‑ready solutions that enable smart manufacturing, data analytics, and lifecycle management of automation assets.
Key Responsibilities
Develop end‑to‑end IT/OT solution architectures integrating
Emerson DeltaV DCS ,
SCADA ,
MES , and
enterprise IT
systems (ERP, LIMS, CMMS).
Define connectivity standards between DeltaV and higher‑level systems using protocols such as
OPC UA ,
Modbus ,
Ethernet/IP , and
MQTT .
Design secure network topologies, including plant network segmentation, firewalls, and industrial DMZ configurations.
Support the development of
edge and cloud data architectures
for real‑time process monitoring, historian integration, and predictive analytics.
Evaluate and recommend technology platforms to support digital transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Integration & Implementation
Lead the integration of
DeltaV systems
with
Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
and
data historians
(OSIsoft PI, Aveva, or Aspen InfoPlus.21).
Collaborate with process automation and IT teams to establish standardized data models, interfaces, and asset hierarchies.
Develop and maintain reference architectures for DeltaV integration across multiple plants.
Provide guidance on
DeltaV modernization, virtualization, and cybersecurity hardening
strategies.
Ensure architectures meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 11 for regulated industries).
Governance & Standards
Define and enforce IT/OT architectural governance, design patterns, and configuration management practices.
Ensure adherence to
ISA-95 ,
ISA/IEC 62443 , and
NIST 800-82
standards for industrial cybersecurity and integration.
Support the development of lifecycle management and migration plans for DeltaV systems.
Participate in audits, risk assessments, and cybersecurity incident response planning.
Partner with engineering, operations, and digital transformation teams to align architectures with business objectives.
Lead workshops to define requirements, solution designs, and technology roadmaps for automation and digital initiatives.
Mentor cross‑functional teams on IT/OT convergence, automation data flow, and best practices for DCS‑to‑enterprise integration.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
8+ years of combined experience in industrial automation, IT infrastructure, or control systems architecture.
Direct experience with
Emerson DeltaV DCS
configuration, system design, and lifecycle management.
Strong knowledge of
industrial networks , including VLANs, switches, firewalls, and remote access solutions.
Experience integrating automation systems with
MES ,
LIMS ,
ERP , and
data historian
environments.
Familiarity with
virtualization technologies
(VMware, Hyper‑V) and
industrial servers/workstations .
Proficiency in
industrial communication protocols : OPC Classic/UA, Modbus TCP/IP, MQTT, Ethernet/IP.
Understanding of
cybersecurity frameworks
for industrial control systems (ISA/IEC 62443).
Preferred Skills
Experience in
