Base pay range

$275,000.00/yr - $315,000.00/yr

Summary

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school for the year in which the course was completed. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency can be: (1) ACGME-approved; (2) AOA-approved; or (3) Other residencies followed by a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice that the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems appropriate. Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) are eligible if enrolled in an accredited residency and otherwise meet basic requirements. PRPs must hold a full license and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and perform under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements: walking, bending, stooping, minimal lifting, and extended periods of sitting. Preferred Experience: Previous experience with veteran populations, working in an interdisciplinary team, and familiarity with virtual care options. Duties

Provide ongoing psychiatric care to a vulnerable population of Veterans in an outpatient setting, offering psycho‑diagnostic, psychotherapeutic, and pharmacological management. Work within a BHIP/Outpatient team utilizing multidisciplinary approaches. Handle occasional on‑call responsibilities. Operate within the Mental Health Service, under the clinical and administrative supervision of the Chief of Psychiatry. Serve as a clinician accountable to the Chief of the Mental Health Service and the Chief of Staff. Offer a full range of psycho‑diagnostic services including assessment, appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques, medication evaluation, and management. Conduct psychiatric evaluations for diverse patients, including male, female, geriatric, post‑deployment combat veterans with mental health and psychosocial issues. Identify patient problems requiring consultation and refer to multidisciplinary medical staff as needed. Ensure appropriation of referrals to specialty programs and community resources such as Mental Health Clinic, Substance Abuse Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology, PTSD Clinic, Intensive Case Management, Compensated Work Therapy, Homeless Services, and Vocational Rehabilitation. Provide therapeutic interventions across settings: outpatient, inpatient, emergency department, primary care/mental health integrated programs, and hospital wards. Participate in team meetings, treatment planning conferences, and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to enhance coordination of care. Order diagnostic tests and consultations, discriminate between normal and abnormal findings, and make appropriate treatment decisions. Maintain psychiatric practices consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies, VACCI guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes, and HIPAA policies. Engage in supervision and teaching to support the psychiatric residency program and perform additional duties as assigned.
