PRINCIPAL ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - POWER SYSTEMS
City Light & Power, Inc. provides the following pay range: $150,000.00/yr - $185,000.00/yr. Pay is based on skills and experience.
Location: Denver, CO – Hybrid Work Schedule.
CLPE is a full‑service electric utility solutions engineering firm in Denver with more than twenty years of experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance and operations through our sister company, City Light & Power.
CLPE offers a wide range of power system engineering services to investor‑owned, municipal, cooperative, government, industrial, and commercial customers.

Responsibilities
Possess and maintain broad and in‑depth knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power distribution systems.
Apply expertise to complex problems.
Develop concept design alternatives, engineering calculations, analysis, and engineering estimates for system improvement projects for substations and distribution systems.
Lead the engineering design of sub‑transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex commercial/industrial power distribution systems.
Develop conceptual and detailed engineering packages for microgrid designs with renewable and fossil‑fuel generation assets.
As a Lead Engineer, prepare, review, and approve design reports and procedures.
Develop and review complex electrical system models in ETAP (or similar software) and validate various system study findings/recommendations.
Develop electrical specifications for major electrical apparatus.
Maintain strong and responsive company‑customer relationships.
Maintain in‑depth knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes for electrical distribution systems.
Schedule and attend field walk‑downs to determine project requirements.
Prepare cost estimates and assist construction personnel throughout the project life cycle with tracking and understanding basis of cost estimate.
Analyze electrical fault events, power quality issues, system loading scenarios and assist CLP crew to implement corrective actions.
Keep current with utility industry standards and codes; enforce and maintain all applicable standards and codes for O&M, replacement/renewable and new installations.
Provide guidance and mentor junior engineers to help with their career development and oversee their tasks on specific project work.

Skills And Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with emphasis in power systems.
Minimum of 12 years of work experience in the electric utility industry, including at least 5 years in a Lead, Supervisor or Project Manager role.
PE license required.
Subject‑matter expert in power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination.
Expert knowledge of medium‑voltage electrical substations and distribution systems.
Experience with MS Project (or similar) to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services.
High proficiency with power system software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower or similar.
Ability to develop staff through mentoring and coaching.
Excellent analytical, organizational and multi‑tasking skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Team player capable of working with various partners from start to finish.
Travel
25% to project site locations.
Other Requirements
U.S. citizenship.
Required to obtain Military Base Access Security Clearance.
Valid driver’s license required.
