Tenure‑Track Assistant Professor Position – Association for Institutional Research (AIR) Apply for a tenure‑track faculty position in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona. The appointment begins August 2026 (Fall semester) and will contribute to teaching, advising, research, curriculum development, and service to the department, college, university, and professional community.

Job Duties The successful applicant will:

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in manufacturing engineering and industrial engineering with expertise in smart/digital manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, AI in manufacturing, and human‑system integration.

Develop curriculum and laboratories, establish a well‑funded research program in smart manufacturing systems and technologies, and participate in service to the department, college, university, and profession.

Advising and mentoring students at all levels, participate in departmental meetings, and contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Finalist Requirements

Provide official transcripts for the highest degree before the on‑campus interview.

Provide three letters of reference dated within the last two years.

Prepare a presentation showcasing scholarly work and a teaching demonstration for faculty and students.

Qualifications Minimum requirements:

D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely aligned field. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred/Desired qualifications:

Academic experience and strength in smart manufacturing areas, additive manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, MEMS/NEMS, bio‑manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, digital twins, cloud/reconfigurable manufacturing, AI/machine learning in manufacturing systems, and human‑system integration.

Industrial experience that enhances teaching and research.

Demonstrated ability in university teaching, mentoring and supervising students, and/or improving industrial and manufacturing engineering curricula.

Performance in authoring peer‑reviewed publications and/or securing external funds.

Strong communication skills.

Institution Description The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department at Cal Poly Pomona has two undergraduate programs (Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering) and two master’s programs (Engineering Management and Systems Engineering). The department supports a large student body, tenured/tenure‑track faculty, and state‑of‑the‑art laboratories. While highly specialized, the department values diversity, equity, inclusion, and strong industry partnerships.
