The Director of Software Engineering will create and maintain an environment where our developers can enjoy creating high-quality software by using critical thought and care-filled guidance to shape how our engineering team works, collaborates, and communicates. They will use their experience and empathy to support the team in embodying our core values and building success for our clients. As the leader of the engineering team, they will collaborate with other department leaders to accomplish both client and company objectives.
Responsibilities
Understanding requirements unique to an agency setting.
Advocating for our developers and our clients.
Meeting with and mentoring team leads and other direct reports to support their personal growth, providing technical mentoring and guidance when applicable, and collaborating with them in maintaining a culture of innovation and excellence.
Collaborating with the CEO and department leaders to improve the efficiency, quality of life, and learning opportunities of our developers.
Assisting with the recruitment and evaluation of engineering candidates.
Proactively stay up to date on new technologies/tech trends/best practices for software development, deployment, and QA.
Championing and establishing software engineering best practices, processes, and coding standards consistently across the dev team.
Providing thought leadership through sharing knowledge and representing our expertise externally (e.g., client discussions and conference events) as well as internally (e.g., mentoring, "lunch and learns").
Requirements
4-5 years professional software production experience
2 years in a leadership role
Based in the United States
Preferred
Wide technical experience in many areas - including DevOps, QA, web, mobile, AR/VR, IoT, and machine learning
Familiar with formal project management concepts
At least one year as an entrepreneur (in any industry, tech is a plus) or at a consultant agency
